Messages What is Money?
Tail Talk

Jimmy, Mani, Ryan, and Mint are playing a board game. The game is about money. Four people can play the game at a time. There are paper notes in a bundle. Ryan picks up the bundle and counts the money. He jumps with excitement, "Wow, so much money. I can buy two footballs with all this money."

Mint laughs loudly. He says it’s not real money. But, Ryan says, it looks like the money his mama and papa have. Mint says it has been made like that. But if he gives this to the Uncle selling footballs, the Uncle will not give him anything.

Ryan is confused. "This looks like real money. Why will I not get anything for this?" he asks. Mint takes out a fifty rupees note from his pocket and shows it to Ryan. Jimmy and Mani also come closer. Mint tells them that each real note has a unique number. The number is given by the government. These real notes are printed on a special machine.

The money is printed and given to the banks. Offices take this money from banks. People who go to work in offices get this money for working hard. Ryan says, "I know my mama and papa get salary for working hard in office."

Mint says yes. Then people put this salary in their bank account.

They take out this money from the account to buy food, clothes, car and many other things, he says.

"When you grow up you will have to go to office to get the money. You should work hard now also to get money." He says he knows computer games. But his Grandma does not know how to use a computer. He teaches her. She gives him 50 rupees every month for teaching her. Grandma has told her friends also. They learn the games from him and give him money. He has put the money in his bank account.

Jimmy looks worried. He says, "I teach my maid’s little son. But I don’t take any money for this. Now I will do so." To this Mint says he should not do everything with the intention of getting money. By teaching the maid’s son without taking money, he is doing a good thing. Jimmy agreed.

Now Ryan announced that the board was set and they should all start the game. Jimmy starts the game. He rattles the dice in a cup and throws for a six. They all cheer.
